ABOUT THE ARTIST - Janice Hassack

Janice Hassack was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1957 and started taking photos as soon as she could buy her own camera.

In 1981, Janice went on a six month camping odyssey across Africa and bought her first SLR camera with interchangeable lenses. This began her love affair with capturing wildlife and nature on film.

Upon returning home, Janice worked in the mineral exploration industry for many years and travelled all over Western Australia. This gave her a unique opportunity to visit areas throughout WA that were not generally accessible to the public and has resulted in her large and diverse photographic record.  Her travels also provided her with the chance to witness the changing seasons throughout the years, especially in arid regions and to observe the amazing transformation of the landscape following exceptional periods of rainfall.

Janice now lives and works in the Pilbara region of WA, at Dampier. She has a passion for photography, and a desire to record all she sees with a sensitivity to the beauty that surrounds us all.   Her love of 4 wheel driving and bush camping in remote areas of Australia will see this passion endure.   As she says…”the more remote, the better!”

“For as long as I can remember I have always been fascinated by the world around me - including plants, insects, animals and minerals.  As a child I constantly collected specimens of these treasures… now I collect them photographically to share with others. After taking a macro shot, I often find the bonus of a minute insect within a flower or plant which brings to life the often hidden magical world of nature that I love”.
